(Ottawa, ON) June 29th, 2011 – Today, Go RVing Canada is encouraged by Transportation Minister Kathleen Wynne’s recent announcement regarding RV licence requirements. Starting July 1st, 2011 drivers in Ontario will be able to tow recreational vehicles (RV) with a full class G licence.

Minister Wynne’s announcement not only supports the RV industry in Ontario, but promotes RVing as an affordable vacationing option for all people. The changes to licence requirements means RV owners will save $200, the current cost of obtaining a class A licence required for those drivers wishing to tow an RV. As of July 1st, Ontarians will be able to tow and operate RVs with a full class G licence as long as they abide by the following regulations:

• The combined weight of the motor vehicle and RV is not more than the current 11, 000 kg limit;
• the RV is attached to the motor vehicle by a fifth wheel hook-up;
• only one vehicle is being towed;
• the RV meets Transport Canada manufacturing standards;
• the RV owner must complete a short questionnaire to receive an Identification Card. This whole program is endorsed by the Insurance Bureau of Canada; and
• the RV is being towed for personal use only.

Go RVing Canada hopes this announcement will encourage more Ontarians to take advantage of fun and affordable RV vacationing, as well as put a little money back into their pockets. As we know, Canada is full of spectacular campgrounds and this summer is a perfect opportunity to enjoy more vacation time within our country. With the increased success of the Canadian RV industry, RV sales have seen an impressive jump in sales figures across the board, signifying that a record number of Canadian families are discovering the fun and flexible travel that the RV lifestyle provides.

Depending on the RV model, a typical family RV vacation can be up to 75% less expensive per day than other forms of vacation travel.According to a recent cost-comparison study conducted by PKF Consulting, an RV trip is shown to be more economical when compared to a traditional week's vacation for a family of four, when the costs of flights, car rental, hotels and eating out at restaurants are considered.
