RV Travel Tips: Roll into fall

Get inspired during the year’s most colourful time to travel in Canada

OTTAWA, October 9, 2009 — With the fall season upon us, Go RVing Canada would like to remind Canadians that the fall season is the perfect time for a fun-filled family RV trip to get out and see the beauty that we have right in our own backyard.

“Many campgrounds have quieted down considerably for the season, so families can enjoy the beautiful colours of fall around the campsite in a blissful silence,” noted Alana Fontaine, Go RVing Canada spokesperson. “RVing in the fall lets you enjoy the nature of camping and when the nights get cool, it’s great to know that you can cuddle in to the warmth of your home on wheels.”

Go RVing Canada has put together a list of some enjoyable and often overlooked fall activities that you may plan to discover on your RV holiday:

  • Local festivals and fall events
  • Hayrides - a family favourite
  • Pumpkin patches - many farms let you pick your own pumpkins which you could then carve into jack-o-lanterns to decorate your RV
  • Corn mazes - an adventure sure to bring some laughs
  • Stopping in at orchards and farms along the way. This is the season for enjoying fresh squash and wonderful home-baked apple pies.
  • Halloween activities – haunted hayrides and ghost tours. You could even decorate your RV into a spooky lair and tell ghost stories around the campfire.

An independent study recently released by Go RVing Canada found typical family RV vacations to be on average 35 percent to 75 percent less expensive per day than the other types of vacations analyzed. The study conducted by PKF Consulting summarized that “vacations using RVs are an advantageous choice for those travelers seeking to maximize the utility of their vacation budgets.”

“The affordability of an RV holiday, combined with the incredible freedom and flexibility offered, means that families can enjoy an exciting getaway, taking advantage of these great fall activities,” emphasized Fontaine.

Whatever the type of fall RV trip you decide to plan, be sure to call the campsite ahead of time to ensure that they are providing full service during the off-season. Don’t forget to pack extra flashlights if you plan on doing outdoor activities in the evening, as the days are shorter and it gets dark quickly.

The Go RVing Canada coalition was formed in 1997, and consists of RV manufacturers, RV dealers and campground operators. The coalition serves as the Canadian RV camping industry ambassador to provide the public and media with information about the benefits of RV travel. The coalition also seeks to enhance consumer information and satisfaction with the RV experience. For more information please visit www.GoRVing.ca.
