Celebrating Douglas Provincial Park, Canadians' Favourite Spot to go RVing in Saskatchewan

(Regina, Saskatchewan) October 1st, 2010 –Today, Go RVing Canada announced the top spot to go RVing in Saskatchewan: Douglas Provincial Park. This region was the most voted by Canadians through Go RVing Canada's recent "Top 100 Spots to RV in Canada" Centennial Contest.

Last July, Go RVing Canada, in partnership with the Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) of Canada and the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC), launched the month-long contest in honour of the RV Centennial. This contest, engaging RV enthusiasts across Canada, allowed Canadians to submit their favourite spot to RV in Canada for a chance to win an Apple iPad.

"Douglas Provincial Park is one of Canadians' favourite spots to go RVing. People love it for its sandy beaches, great fishing and walking trails," said Go RVing Canada Spokesperson Angèle Lapointe. "This contest was a true testament to the RV lifestyle, which visibly remains a popular vacation choice for those who are looking for an affordable vacation that offers freedom, flexibility, and fun."

"We are pleased that Douglas Provincial Park has received this recognition," Saskatchewan Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Southern Park Operations Manager Cindy MacDonald said. "This speaks to the fact that all of our provincial parks are popular destinations. We invite everyone to explore Saskatchewan and discover the exciting, high-quality recreation opportunities that our provincial parks and our province have to offer."

The Top 11 spots to RV in Canada, which consists of answers submitted by Canadians from coast to coast, include: Kluane Lake (Yukon), Pacific Rim National Park Reserve (British Columbia), Banff National Park (Alberta), Douglas Provincial Park (Saskatchewan), Spruce Woods Provincial Park (Manitoba), Algonquin Park (Ontario), Gaspésie (Québec), Cabot Trail (Nova Scotia) Fundy National Park (New Brunswick), Twin Shores Camping Area (Darnley, Prince Edward Island), and Gros Morne (Newfoundland and Labrador). The complete list of favourite Canadian RV destinations is available on Go RVing Canada's website, www.GoRVing.ca.

Lisha Collinge from Regina was one of many contest participants who voted for this region. "Douglas Provincial Park is an amazing place," said Collinge. "It has many trees and the campsites are private. There are endless sandy beaches, the water never turns green with algae and the fishing is top notch. There are walking trails, the store staff is great, letting us know where the best shore fishing is. The best part is that the park staff is wonderful. Our family loves visiting, including our black lab who likes to chase the ground squirrels. My parents had taken me as a child and it was great then, but it is far better now."

2010 marks 100 years since the first mass-produced motorized camper was produced. Several events will be taking place throughout the year across North America and Go RVing Canada is thrilled to take part in the celebrations honouring this important occasion.
