Celebrating Kluane Lake, Canadians' Favourite Spot to Go RVing in the Yukon |
(Whitehorse, Yukon) October 14th, 2010 –Today, Go RVing Canada announced the top spot to go RVing in the Yukon: Kluane Lake. This region was the most voted by Canadians through Go RVing Canada’s recent “Top 100 Spots to RV in Canada” Centennial Contest. Last July, Go RVing Canada, in partnership with the Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) of Canada and the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC), launched the month-long contest in honour of the RV Centennial. This contest, engaging RV enthusiasts across Canada, allowed Canadians to submit their favourite spot to RV in Canada for a chance to win an Apple iPad. “Kluane Lake is unmistakably one of Canadians’ favourite spots to go RVing. People love it for its wild life, spectacular views and fresh mountain air,” said Go RVing Canada Spokesperson Angèle Lapointe. “This contest was a true testament to the RV lifestyle, which visibly remains a popular vacation choice for those who are looking for an affordable vacation that offers freedom, flexibility, and fun.” “The selection of Kluane Lake by Go RVing Canada’s contest participants is a natural fit. Visitors can relax as they travel on the wide-open paved Alaska Highway, one of the top three drives in North America, exploring the crystal blue lake border by some of Canada's tallest mountains," stated Rod Raycroft, Manager North America Marketing Operations for Tourism Yukon. "Yukon campgrounds operators offer million dollar views of the lake and Kluane National Park under the mid-night sun for around $15, heck most everyone here will provide advice on where's the best place to catch your dinner." The Top 11 spots to RV in Canada, which consists of answers submitted by Canadians from coast to coast, includes: Kluane Lake (Yukon), Pacific Rim National Park Reserve (British Columbia), Banff National Park (Alberta), Douglas Provincial Park (Saskatchewan), Spruce Woods Provincial Park (Manitoba), Algonquin Park (Ontario), Gaspésie (Québec), Cabot Trail (Nova Scotia), Fundy National Park (New Brunswick), Twin Shores Camping Area (Darnley, Prince Edward Island), and Gros Morne (Newfoundland and Labrador). The complete list of favourite Canadian RV destinations is available on Go RVing Canada’s website, www.GoRVing.ca. Edith Lagace from Kingston was one of many contest participants who voted for Kluane Lake. “The roads are located right next to the lake which makes for wonderful views,” said Lagace. “I would love to return to Kluane to spend more time!” 2010 marks 100 years since the first mass-produced motorized camper was produced. Several events will be taking place throughout the year across North America and Go RVing Canada is thrilled to take part in the celebrations honouring this important occasion.
